titled "Remember Me!"
Remember Me!
I once was a great spirit amidst the sand
Roaming the wilderness, foreign.
A source of life, to the vast land
Which was my home...my heaven.
A life giving force to the weak and lame
Who danced to the beat of my thunder.
The sentinel's ghost, sand in his ear,
What tumultous sound I wonder.
You honored me when I approached
There was dancing across my nation.
You changed in your ways and now
You honor me in a forgotten celebration.
You dance alone in your honor to me,
My bones bleached and brittle.
I dance alone now celebrating times gone,
Save the powder and the sickle.
Tomorrow we'll celebrate the dance of today,
Ancestors and mourners among the decay.
Counting the grains in our hands tomorrow,
Asking of time how many to borrow.
With eyes in the palm their lips are numb,
They march to the silent beat of my drum.
Remember me, for I was of your spirit of yore,
Remember me, for I am your spirit forever more.
